The iMate allows users to easily connect almost any ADB peripheral to iMacs, PowerBook G3s, B&W G3s, G4s, iBooks, and PCs with USB ports. The iMate allows you to continue to use your favorite mice, keyboards, trackballs, trackpads, hardware dongles and other ADB peripherals. The iMate supports multiple devices (if you chain them together) so you can connect your mouse, keyboard, and other devices with a single iMate.

You can use most ADB interface devices with a USB equipped PC running Windows 98.

Is the iMate OS X compatible?

iMate is completely compatible with Apple's latest operating system, OS X. Drivers are available now and can be downloaded here. However, this does not necessarily mean that your device attached to iMate is OS X compatible.

Be sure to check with the manufacturer of your ADB device to see if they support OS X. If they do, then you can use it with our iMate ADB-to-USB Adapter.

The built in OS X ADB drivers support many devices such as keyboards and mice. With our iMate OS X Driver, most other ADB devices under OS X or Classic are supported. However Classic support does not include input devices like trackballs or drawing tablets. You may need to get a native OS X ADB driver from the manufacturer for these types of devices.

Applications that communicate with ADB devices like hardware protection dongles and color calibrators may work with the iMate OS X Driver when "Classic claims iMate" is selected in the iMate preference pane. However keep in mind that we have not been able to make it work reliably in all cases so we cannot guarantee complete compatibility.

iMac Computers: Built in support in ROM. iMac updates are required for Rev A and Rev B models (233 Mhz) when using ADB devices with custom drivers.

Mac “Wake from Sleep”: Please note wakeup from sleep mode is supported with ADB keyboards using the iMate but the power on key is used with external keyboards on PowerBooks G3s. This is different than previous PowerBooks that would awake with any keystroke.

Macs with USB Cards: PCI Macs with USB cards are supported. You need to download USB Card Support 1.2 or later to use the iMate (or any other USB device). Soft power on (keyboard power on) is supported by Macs with built in USB but is currently not supported by any USB cards.

PC Compatibility Note: PC support is generally limited to mouse and keyboard support. This also allows for the use of track pads, trackballs, and bar code scanners/wands, which use these drivers.
