The Crescendo/NuBus G3 incorporates the revolutionary PowerPC™ G3 processor and ultra high-speed Level 2 backside cache for astoundingly-fast performance, delivering up to a 16x overall speed improvement.

Sonnet's groundbreaking Fortissimo™ technology enables us to exclusively deliver 400 and 500 MHz G3 upgrades for NuBus Power Macs. These upgrades operate at or near these respective speeds for every NuBus Power Mac, regardless of bus speed, as shown in this Fortissimo Bus-Doubling Chart. The PowerPC G3 operating speeds are limited to 10x the computer's bus speed. For example, a Macintosh with an original bus speed of 33.3 MHz would previously have supported a G3 running only up to 333 MHz. With Fortissimo, Sonnet has designed a separate bus on the upgrade card that runs at twice the speed of the host motherboard. In this example, a G3 processors would operate based on a Fortissimo bus speed of 66.6 MHz, easily supporting a 500 MHz G3 at full speed.

The Crescendo/NuBus is a universal card that works in the 6100, 7100, and 8100, and is compatible with your existing hardware. This version of the Crescendo/NuBus G3 card also supports the 6100 AV and allows you to continue to use the AV card already installed in the computer. This card seamlessly integrates with your software, and supports System 7.1.2 through Mac® OS 9.1.

The Crescendo/NuBus G3 installs in minutes with step-by-step, illustrated instructions. There are no switches or jumpers to set, no control panels to confuse you. The Crescendo upgrade card automatically adjusts to the highest possible processor speed for each computer, ensuring maximum performance from your computer.

Most 7100 and 8100 Macintoshes were shipped "standard" with either an AV or high performance video (or HPV) card. The optional Crescendo AV/HPV Card Video Adapter enables you to preserve your current video capabilities. The same adapter supports the Crescendo/NuBus G3 upgrades. Simply remove the AV or HPV card, install it onto the adapter board and plug it into the computer's middle NuBus slot.
