FAQ:
Why is the PodFreq superior to other FM transmitters?
PodFreq’s use of audio equipment-grade, discrete components, and the use of the iPod’s line level signal to feed the PodFreq ensure the best sound quality of any FM transmitter available! Thoughtful design touches such as built-in FireWire and mini USB 2.0 ports (that effectively make the PodFreq a dock substitute) add value to an already attractive package.
What is the benefit of using the iPod’s dock connector instead of the headphone jack?
Superior sound quality. The dock connector carries the iPod’s line out signal, which bypasses the headphone output amplifier that is prone to distortion when the volume level is set too high. With a stable output level and a higher signal-to-noise ratio, using the dock connector to feed the PodFreq was the logical choice.
Should I use the iPod’s built-in equalizer?
For best results, we recommend that you turn off the iPod’s EQ. However, since music appreciation is subjective, you might find that you like the way your music sounds using one of the various EQ settings. It’s your music; you should listen to it the way you think sounds best.
Does the PodFreq use batteries?
No, the PodFreq is powered by the iPod. It draws less than 14mA, so it barely impacts your iPod’s battery at all.
Can I charge my iPod or sync with iTunes while my iPod is in the PodFreq?
Yes, you can do both using the PodFreq’s integrated FireWire or mini-USB 2.0 (sync only) ports.
When I use the PodFreq and adjust the iPod’s volume control, the sound coming out of the speakers remains the same. Why?
The iPod’s volume control affects only the output from the headphone jack, while the line level signal (used by the PodFreq) is unaffected. Since the iPod’s volume control has no effect on the volume of the transmitted signal, you adjust the volume on your FM radio.
Can I listen to my iPod through my headphones while I’m transmitting with the PodFreq?
Yes, and you can change the volume level through the headphones with the iPod’s volume control, without affecting the transmitted volume.
Can I use the iPod’s remote control with the PodFreq?
Absolutely, the PodFreq allows complete access to the iPod’s controls, and a number of popular peripherals can be used as well.
Can the PodFreq transmit to multiple radios?
Yes, we were transmitting to three car radios in the Sonnet parking lot just the other day. You can use your iPod to provide tunes at your next tailgate!
Does the PodFreq work with the iPod mini?
No. The PodFreq’s case is designed specifically for the iPod with the dock connector. Strictly speaking, the iPod mini’s and PodFreq’s electronics are compatible, but in use, the iPod mini would not be held securely. Used in this manner would likely result in damage to the dock connector, and the iPod mini might fall out.
Will the POD FMT-IPOD work with my new 4G model iPod?
Yes it is now shipping with a 4G spacer to hold it secure. PodFeq is now shipping with a Free carry case and auto Charger! * The FMT-IPOD is "NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE IPOHOTO MODEL"!! For iPod Photo users order part number FMT-IPOD-PH which is for the iPod Photo only!
