How to differentiate between Silver G4 models ![How to differentiate between Silver G4 models]()
How to differentiate between Silver G4 modelsThere are four models of the Power Mac G4 that have silver colored cases. These are the Power Mac G4 Quicksilver, Quicksilver 2002, Mirrored Drive Doors, and FireWire 800 models.
Both the "Quicksilver" and "Quicksilver 2002" models have non-reflective panels covering their optical drives. To differentiate between these two models, open Apple System Profiler to determine the speed of your processor(s). The QuickSilver model was available in 733Mhz, 867Mhz, or Dual 800Mhz models. The QuickSilver 2002 model was available in 800Mhz, 933Mhz, or Dual 1Ghz models. These two models are undifferentiable by looking at the exterior of the computer.
Both the "Mirrored Drive Doors" and "Firewire 800" models have reflective panels on their optical drive. To differentiate between them, look at the back of your Macintosh using the above picture. The Firewire 800 machine will have the "FireWire 800" port whereas the Mirrored Drive Doors machine will only have two FireWire ports.
