1. Q Why should I be concerned about cleaning my laptop or LCD display screen?
A. Your laptop's LCD display and Cinnima screens are the single, most expensive, component of you will purchase whether it be a full display or a computer, and the easiest to damage and the hardest to clean. The replacement cost of a damaged active-matrix, color LCD display screen often exceeds $2,000 or more.
2. Q My Apple PowerBook "Owner's manual" recommends a "mild" glass cleaner to clean my display screen. Is this OK?
A. Vinegar & water is the only "safe" glass cleaner for plastics, but this has no ANTI-STATIC properties, does not RESIST FINGER-PRINTING and cannot PREVENT SCRATCHING or EXTEND the life of your LCD display screen surface, so which would you prefer?
3. Q Why can't I use a "glass cleaner" on my laptop's LCD display or Cinima display screen?
A. Don't make a $2,000 mistake cleaning your laptop screen with a $2 glass cleaner & a paper towel! LCD display screens are almost universally made of plastic. Plastics & computer manufacturers consistently do not recommend alcohol or ammonia - based cleaners. Repeated applications of alcohol on plastic will turn your screen surface "yellow", make it brittle and cause "stress cracking" (hairline scratches) on your screen surface. 4. Q I've been buying a "brand name" computer screen cleaner at one of the local computer/office supply superstores. Do you think this product would be safe for laptops?

Most commercially available computer screen cleaners are formulated to clean glass - not plastic and contain either alcohol or ammonia. Look for: Avoid Prolonged Skin Contact, Use in Well Ventilated Areas & Flammability warnings as your tip-off to the use of alcohol-based cleaners. Recently several "Dusting Sprays" have appeared on store shelves and in TV commercials. Endust for Electronics and PerfectData StatClean appear to be two virtually identical products, yet Endust says you can clean your laptop screen with their cleaner, while PerfectData "StatClean" carries the following warning: "Do not spray cleaner onto LCD screens." We also have "special "concerns when addressing the exceptional cleaning requirements of High Resolution Graphics Displays (see FAQ #8) with either of these products.

Klear Screen is specifically recommended for safely cleaning the optical-grade coatings applied to these "high-end" monitors. Special Note: (See FAQ #4) We have NO INFORMATION that would support the use of "Anti-Static Dusting Sprays" currently being advertised in the media for the safe cleaning of the "AR" & "UV" optical-grade coatings applied to the external surface of SONY, NEC, Hitachi & Portrait Displays Labs / "Pivot" high res monitors.
9. Q Which is more important - the cleaner or the cloth?
