Top 10 Questions about iKlear Products for Cleaning LCD & CRT Screens, iPods & Other Apple Products
These questions are typical everyday concerns about cleaning and maintaining the look and quality of your apple products.
1. Q Why should I be concerned about cleaning my laptop or LCD display screen?
A. Your laptop's LCD display and Cinnima screens are the single, most expensive, component of you will purchase whether it be a full display or a computer, and the easiest to damage and the hardest to clean. The replacement cost of a damaged active-matrix, color LCD display screen often exceeds $2,000 or more.
2. Q My Apple PowerBook "Owner's manual" recommends a "mild" glass cleaner to clean my display screen. Is this OK?
A. Vinegar & water is the only "safe" glass cleaner for plastics, but this has no ANTI-STATIC properties, does not RESIST FINGER-PRINTING and cannot PREVENT SCRATCHING or EXTEND the life of your LCD display screen surface, so which would you prefer?
3. Q Why can't I use a "glass cleaner" on my laptop's LCD display or Cinima display screen?
A. Don't make a $2,000 mistake cleaning your laptop screen with a $2 glass cleaner & a paper towel! LCD display screens are almost universally made of plastic. Plastics & computer manufacturers consistently do not recommend alcohol or ammonia - based cleaners. Repeated applications of alcohol on plastic will turn your screen surface "yellow", make it brittle and cause "stress cracking" (hairline scratches) on your screen surface. Iklear products are Apple authorized for use on all there equipment.
4. Q I've been buying a "brand name" computer screen cleaner at one of the local computer/office supply superstores. Do you think this product would be safe for laptops?
A. Probably not! One of the best known brands has recently relabeled their alcohol-based, pouch/wipes "glass" screen cleaner for "Laptops" and LCD screen use. Most commercially available computer screen cleaners are formulated to clean glass - not plastic and contain either alcohol or ammonia. Look for: Avoid Prolonged Skin Contact, Use in Well Ventilated Areas & Flammability warnings as your tip-off to the use of alcohol-based cleaners. Recently several "Dusting Sprays" have appeared on store shelves and in TV commercials. Endust for Electronics and PerfectData StatClean appear to be two virtually identical products, yet Endust says you can clean your laptop screen with their cleaner, while PerfectData "StatClean" carries the following warning: "Do not spray cleaner onto LCD screens." We also have "special "concerns when addressing the exceptional cleaning requirements of High Resolution Graphics Displays (see FAQ #8) with either of these products.
5. Q What makes Klear Screen different from other screen cleaners?
A. Klear Screen is unique. It safely cleans and replenishes your screen surface with a non-toxic, non-damaging, 3-step liquid polymer-based formula that LIFTS and DISSOLVES surface contaminants and fingerprints, floating debris off the screen surface, leaving an ANTI-STATIC coating which dramatically reduces surface friction, resists fingerprinting and provides a renewable protective screen barrier. Most importantly Apple has only endorsed it as the cleaning product to use.
6. Q What's different about cleaning my Newton screen?
A. Your Newton MessagePad requires the most sophisticated screen cleaning products available. The use of a "stylus" and repetitive pen-strokes can eventually damage your screen surface. The surface also tends to accumulate fingerprints and oils from your hands. Klear Screen's unique formula contains a protective surface lubricant, which renews your screen surface every time it is applied, removes fingerprints instantly and leaves a renewable screen surface that is teflon-smooth to the touch. resists new fingerprints and may dramatically extend the service life of your MessagePad screen. Apple Computer included Klear Screen in their original Newton "Starter Kit".
7. Q Is Klear Screen compatible with the WriteRight screen protectors I use on my Newton?
A. Klear Screen is 100% compatible with the externally applied WriteRight, vinyl film protectors for the screen surface of your Newton MessagePad. Klear Screen will clean your WriteRight covers without damage, "enhance" the writing "feel" of the surface and extend the usable service life of each cover you apply.
8. Q Why do I need a "special" cleaner for my new High Resolution Graphics Display monitor? The "Owners manual" specifically warns against using glass cleaners. Is Klear Screen compatible & safe for cleaning my monitor?
A. High Resolution Graphics Display monitors from SONY, NEC, Hitachi & Portrait Display Labs currently utilize externally applied, optical-grade, anti-reflective ("A/R") and ultra-violet ("UV") reducing coatings. The new SONY SF/SE mk-II, NEC MultiSync, Hitachi & Portrait Display Labs "Pivot" monitors now incorporate these coatings. Klear Screen is a "state-of-the-art" cleaner for precision & multi-coated optics and is internationally recognized for it's unique, non-damaging, alcohol & ammonia-free formula. Klear Screen is specifically recommended for safely cleaning the optical-grade coatings applied to these "high-end" monitors. Special Note: (See FAQ #4) We have NO INFORMATION that would support the use of "Anti-Static Dusting Sprays" currently being advertised in the media for the safe cleaning of the "AR" & "UV" optical-grade coatings applied to the external surface of SONY, NEC, Hitachi & Portrait Displays Labs / "Pivot" high res monitors.
9. Q Which is more important - the cleaner or the cloth?
A. Cleaning precision optical-grade surfaces and coatings require both non-damaging cleaners and polishing cloths. Klear Kloths are engineered for cleanroom use, are wood-pulp & lint-free with extremely low polyester content and meets the most stringent requirements of the aerospace, optical and magnetic media storage industry. Klear Kloths absorb 5 times their weight in liquid and are washable and reusable. There are currently no other cleaning products commercially available that combine the performance of both Klear Screen & Klear Kloths. Klear Screen "Singles" wet/dry duo-packs combining both Klear Screen / Klear Kloths have recently been selected by CNN's West Coast Bureau, as the only "approved" optics cleaner for their "broadcast-grade" camcorder lenses. A new product iKlear cloth has just emerged on to the scene, it is a chamiose like product made by the makers of the iKlear, and again is Apple approved. It is reusable over and over again. Take a look here!
10. Q Your Klear Screen Application Guide mentions cleaning CD's, CD-ROMS and laser discs. Can you give me more information?
A. Klear Screen is unsurpassed for safely cleaning CD's since their introduction in 1979 and laser discs since their introduction in 1981. The combination of Klear Screen & Klear Kloths are unequaled at any price. Comparable imported laser disc cleaners (you can clean CD's with a laser disc cleaner but you can't clean laser discs with a CD cleaner) sell for nearly $20 for only a 2 oz. bottle - with no polishing cloths
